Apple is Running One-Day Coding Labs to Allow Developers to Test their Apps on Apple Vision Pro
Apple began accepting applications for one-day Vision Pro developer labs earlier this week. The sessions will allow developers to test and optimize their apps for the Apple Vision Pro.
Apple announced Vision Pro, its upcoming mixed-reality headset, on June 5, 2023. Since then, it’s caused quite a debate among the development community.
One of the primary concerns many developers have raised in the last few months is how well their apps will translate to VisionOS, Apple’s new operating system specifically designed for the Vision Pro.
In an effort to alleviate concerns, Apple is now allowing developers to attend one-day labs to experience how their apps will run on the new OS. The self-directed sessions will run throughout August in Cupertino, London, Munich, Tokyo, and Singapore.
Apple sent out emails to certain developers, inviting them to the events directly. Others will have to submit an application before they can attend. All applicants must be 18 or older and have an existing iOS app, iPadOS app, or active visionOS app in development.
Apple is certainly taking all the necessary steps to ensure the Vision Pro launches as smoothly as possible. But will the mixed-reality headset really live up to the hype? It’s hard to tell. Some believe Apple is set once again to revolutionize the tech world. Others think launching a mixed-reality headset is a step in the wrong direction.
iPhones, Airpods, and iPads are small, practical, and easy to carry. They’ve become integral to our daily lives. Many suggest a cumbersome headset will simply act as a novelty item - the kind you get as a gift, use a few times, and then leave stored away in a cupboard for the better part of a decade.
Truth be told, Apple has always found a way to surprise us with its standout technology. But for $3500, the Vision Pro must be more than just a great piece of tech. It needs to be revolutionary.
