Discover the future of web design.
If you’re running low on inspiration and are looking for some help to raise your game, you should attend one of the Future of Web Design conferences. Organised by Future Insights, an Atlantic-spanning events company, the three day conferences for web designers and developers focus almost entirely on future developments in our industry. There are four main events throughout the year, starting with FOWD London in a fortnight’s time. Running from the 27th–29th April at the Etc. venues at Bishopsgate, this will be the 9th incarnation of the popular conference. April 27th is reserved for workshops on topics ranging from “Humanising the E-Commerce Experience” to “Responsive Content Modelling”. The conference proper runs over the following two days. FOWD is split into two tracks: the main track, and the rising stars track; you can choose to stick with established experts, or opt for the freshest voices on the conference circuit. FOWD, London 2014 All attendees are provided with conference sessions online after the event, so not only will you never miss a thing, but you can shut down that laptop and emmerse yourself in the talks. fowd_001 Talks will include Stephen Hay’s keynote on using design to persuade without being deceptive, Val Head’s presentation on thinking like a motion designer, and Den Odell’s look at the future of responsive design standards. Speaker highlights include Chris Clarke, the UX architect responsible for the Guardian’s recent responsive redesign; Léonie Watson, senior accessibility engineers at TPG; and Dan Edwards, winner of net magazine’s Young Designer of the Year 2013. fowd_002 If you can’t make it to London, there are three further events in North America. Topics range from responsive design to the mobile web, CSS to branding; always with the emphasis on future developments. Future Insights Live Conference will take place June 1–4 2015, at the Tropicana Hotel Las Vegas. Highlighted speakers include Jenn Lukas, Rachel Andrew, and Aaron Draplin. Later this year, FOWD San Francisco will be held October 28–30 2015, at the Mission Bay Conference Center at UCSF. And FOWD New York will take place November 2–4 2015, at an as yet unconfirmed venue. Line-ups for these events have yet to be announced, and if you think you have something interesting to say about the future of our industry you can apply to be a speaker.
